Uncovering hard-hitting stories that touch on feminism Katie Piper: Locked up in Louisiana takes you inside life behind bars in the U.S., looking at the motives behind the crime, and how childhood experiences can shape a person’s path into adulthood—and sometimes, prison.
Led by the amazing and inspiring Katie Piper – who spent a month visiting the inmates – this series takes an emotional and deeply human approach. Katie creates a space where women feel safe to open up, by drawing on her own experiences as a survivor, offering a more raw and honest insight.

What is Katie Piper: Locked Up in Louisiana about?
Katie Piper OBE heads to one of America’s toughest pre-trial women’s prisons–where some inmates wait up to six years just to face court! Inspired by her powerful Jailhouse Mums series and years of volunteering in prisons, Katie meets the women living behind bars diving deeper into the wider stories of women in the U.S. prison system. From the stark difference in gun laws and sentencing with the UK and America, to the personal journeys that led these women to prison with a key look at domestic abuse and history of violence.

We were lucky enough to attend a Q&A with Katie herself. When asked what it was like filming inside the prison, she shared:
"Was I scared? Life in unpredictable and volatile, we never know what’s going to happen… to make a good show we have to have a little bit of risk. I’d be more scared walking through central London at night than going into a prison."
