The Vampire Diaries
Say whaaaat! A small Virginia town where everyone’s hot, immortal, or hiding a curse? Yep, must be The Vampire Diaries. Welcome to Mystic Falls, populated by vampires, witches, werewolves… you name it, it’s lurking there. At the centre of it all is Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) who’s pulled into the supernatural world when she falls for the two-centuries old vampire Salvatore brothers: Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). And so begins a love triangle to end all triangles.
The Originals
The Originals is so much moreeeee than just a Vampire Diaries spin-off. Follow Klaus - the OG vampire-werewolf hybrid himself – as he heads back to New Orleans and teams up with the local witches to claw his way back into power. Honestly, same energy we’d bring. And if you think your family is dysfunctional, the Mikaelsons are ready to challenge you for the crown. Jam-packed with mystique, messy loyalties and dark supernatural drama simmering at every turn –The Originals is one you’ll happily sink your fangs into.
Vampire Diaries: Legacies
Still can’t get enough of The Vampire Diaries anddd devoured The Originals?! We don’t blame you, they’re just soooo easy to watch. Well lucky you, because there’s another spin-off waiting on ITVX: Vampire Diaries: Legacies. Set after Season 5 of The Originals, we follow Klaus Mikaelson’s now 17-year-old daughter, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) as she heads to the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. It’s not your standard class with witches, vampires and werewolves trying to survive teen life… and each other. Headmaster Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis) is back too, doing his best to keep the supernatural chaos under control. This next-gen drama is spookily underrated, grab a brew and start streaming.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
It’s backkkkk! (Well… on your watchlist). This cult classic follows the effortlessly cool Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Geller) as she slays vampires, tackles demons and somehow still survives being 16. Brimming with razor sharp wit and big ol’ themes of friendship and morality. With a fanbase that still calls it “family” get prepared to get some megaaa emotional attachment to this show.
Angel
If you couldn’t get enough of Buffy, we’ve got you. Potential spoilers on the way! Angel picks up right where season 3 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer leaves off, with Angel (David Boreanaz) who is Buffy’s former beau and everyone’s favourite brooding vampire, leaves Sunnydale so Buffy can finally try a “normal” relationship. Being a vampire cursed with a soul is no walk in the park, so Angel sets out, not for blood, but for moral redemption. He lands in LA and opens a supernatural detective agency, taking on demons, monsters and oh so much more. And trust us, this show is soooo much more than just a Buffy spin-off. It’s darker, deeper and totally binge-worthy.
Charmed
We’ve got another classic for you…Charmed! This fantasy drama follows the iconic trio of sisters known as the Charmed Ones. After discovering the Book of Shadows in their attic, they realise they’re actually crazy and powerfully good witches. (Honestly, catch us rummaging through our own attic hoping for a spellbook to magically appear). Using the Power of Three, Prue (Shannen Doherty) with telekinesis, Piper (Holly Marie Combs) who can freeze people/objects, and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) with future-seeing premonitions, teams up to protect San Francisco from demons and all sorts of supernatural nasties. Alllll whilst attempting to keep their identities secret and live something resembling a normal life. Very relatable. With drama, comedy, action and that same addictive energy Buffy fans will instantly vibe with, it’s no wonder Charmed has built a serious cult following.
Being Human
This off-beat comedy-drama follows three unlikely housemates, a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf, played by Lenora Cruchlow, Aidan Turder and Russel Tovey, as they try (and often fail) to live ordinary lives in suburban Bristol. They’re always dodging being discovered, danger and everyday chaos, all while clinging to friendship, love and any scrap of normalcy they can get. It’s odd, charming and seriouslyyyy watchable.
NOS4A2
Pronounced “Nosferatu”, this supernatural horror drama follows Vic Mcqueen (Ashleigh Cummings), a young woman with the eerie ability to open portals to lost things - which tangles her up with immortal soul snatcher Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto). Manx feeds on the souls of children and dumps what’s left in Christmasland… a place where it is Christmas every day and unhappiness is literally illegal. Festive? Nope. Absolutely chilling? Yup. Based on Joe Hill’s best-selling novel (with a nod of approval from the horror king Stephen King himself), this one’s a proper spine-tingler.
Midwinter of the Spirit
Midwinter of the Spirit sees Motherland’s Anna Maxwell Martin swap West London chaos for pure supernatural creepiness as she steps into the role of a country vicar. She’s pulled into an eerie murder case, one disturbingly like the crucifixion of Jesus, and suddenly finds herself slap bang in the middle of a full on Good vs Evil battle. Based on Phil Rickman’s Merrily Watkins books, this chilling three-parter is the perfect lights-on and doors locked watch.
Starring: David Threlfall, Siobhan Finneran and Leila Mimmack.
Marchlands
Starring the phenomenal Jodie Whittaker, the Marchlands is a ghost story with a twist… or three. Three families, living in the same house across different eras - the 1960s, 1990s, and present day - are all haunted by the spirit of the 1960s family’s daughter, who died under mysterious circumstances. Confusing? A little. Disturbing? Absolutely. Eerie? You bet. The families must unravel the mystery so her restless spirit can finally find peace.
